2025

Creative Crecimiento: Cultivating Community, Wealth, and Leadership Skills for BIPOC Artists in Oregon.

This 4-week online professional development series provided holistic tools, resources, and community support for BIPOC artists of all career stages in Oregon, and concluded with a special in-person celebration at Bar Carlo on Oct 20. Applications are now closed, and all participants received subsidized, sliding-scale tuition. September 15-October 20, 2025. Learn more here.

 

The Portland in Color Residency at Sitka Center.

Our inaugural partnership with the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology offered three Oregon artists of color the opportunity to spend up to one month in residence, with a $1000 stipend per artist. The residency period was October 2025-April 2026, and applications were due in April 2025. Learn more here.

 

Money Talks: Finance Q&A for BIPOC Creatives.
A financial literacy-focused event focused on increasing access to financial knowledge from tax basics to investing to debt repayment strategies held in partnership with financial friends, Chaim Scramm, David Hackett, Jenna Goldin, Jesse Swordfisk, and Nicole Long. Jupiter NEXT. All profits benefited Operation Olive Branch. March 6, 2025. 

 

2024

Creative Refresh: A Retreat for BIPOC Artists.

An intimate creative retreat for Black, Indigenous, and people of color that includes a two-night stay at the Society Hotel, private BIPOC-only soaking session in their bathhouse, meals, and an itinerary filled with abundant opportunities for connection, reflection, 2025 visioning, and respite. Roux Poster Show and Live Art Show.

Portland in Color was thrilled to partner with House of Commons and Roux, a unique food and beverage experience led by the women redefining it, in 2024. Our 2024 Art Show Fundraiser Poster Show featured limited-edition food-themed commissions from local artists Arielle Wilkins, Claire Gunville, Jax Ko, Rebecca Nguyen, and Yanely Rivas. Printing was generously provided by Paperjam Press. October 11-17, 2024. Learn more here.

 

Brunch & Bloom.
Our spring mixer will meet at the Black Moon Healing garden for a casual creative meetup in the sun. Bring snacks and a mini art project (or just yourself!) to connect with other local BIPOC artists. Sound bath and meditation led by Antha Reynolds, Brunch and yoga by Cookie Zvovushe. April 20, 2024. 

 

2023 & EARLIER

Rooted Together.
Supported by Portland Metro, Rooted Together invited artists to create work during guided art walks with a final gathering to share art and commune in nature. This two-day outdoor activation fused mindfulness with creative artistic expression. Hikes led at Oxbow Regional Park with Cherilynn Tsosie and at Mt. Tabor Park with Rikeem Sholes. Sound bath and meditation led by Antha Reynolds and Cookie Zvovushe. August 2023.

Winter Mixer.
A casual community gathering centering for BIPOC creatives with a free raffle and DJs from Uwu Collective. Hey Love. January 2022.

Altar to Alter: A Transcendent Experience in Black Feminine Art and Healing.
A community partnership with the Portland Art Museum living within Hank Willis Thomas’ All Things Being Equal… exhibition. This exhibit was curated by Jagger Blaec and features 11 local Black femme creatives photographed by Intisar Abioto, with an accompanying zine designed by Melodee Dudley and edited by Tiara Darnell. October 2019.

Rise and Grind: Promotion for BIPOC Creatives
A half-day professional development workshop with writing and website tutorial, risograph business card demonstration, and headshot sessions. Independent Publishing Resource Center. September 2019.
